Your child is growing faster than you could have ever imagined. We know it can be hard with so many things to keep up with, but don’t forget that one of those important things is to take your child to the dentist. A great time to start getting them involved and comfortable in a dentist office is as soon as you see their first tooth appear, but no later than the age of 1 (as recommended by the American Dental Association).
Here are some helpful homework tips that you can do with your child once their first tooth breaks through the gum. When brushing a child’s teeth, younger than the age of 3, it is recommended that you use a toothbrush designed specifically for children and to only use non-fluoridated toothpaste the size of a grain of rice. Use this as an opportunity to teach them how to brush their teeth and not to swallow the toothpaste as well.
Once your child has grown past the age of 3 and learns how to spit the toothpaste, you can increase the amount of fluoridated toothpaste they put on their toothbrush to the size of a pea. This increase in toothpaste is proportional to the amount of teeth that your child will have and will help to provide each and every tooth with the fluoride that they need to stay strong and healthy. This would be a great time to teach your child to floss on a daily basis to make sure that the area between their teeth stays nice and clean so that they can avoid nasty germs that causes cavities.
Here at ToothTown we make sure to teach everyone how to brush and floss their teeth everyday so that everyone can have happy and healthy smiles.
